Established in 1988 by Simon Maddocks, a BHS Level 5 intermediate instructor, the stables quickly developed from a handful of ponies to become the popular yard it is today. It’s lovely to welcome back Summer visitors to ride with us each year, and to meet and take out their children as well!
Roylands Riding Stables is a BHS approved livery and riding centre and we’re fully open from Easter to October half term (with limited winter hours) and cater for all abilities of rider from the complete beginner to the more advanced.
We offer all types of countryside riding from farm tracks to sea views, tiny treks for the youngsters, plus structured group and individual lessons in our outdoor arena.
As well as offering a wide range of riding options, we can now provide beautiful, quality holiday accommodation onsite. There’s plenty to do for the non-riders as well, so Croyde makes a perfect holiday destination for the whole family.
Our stables is situated in beautiful Croyde village, North Devon only a couple of minutes walk from Croyde beach nestling behind the sand dunes.
Famous for its local surfing community, Croyde also boasts traditional thatched cottages, several local pubs, ice-cream shops, surf shops, a post office and cafes.
The iconic headland of Baggy Point offers some of the most scenic views in Devon, and leads to an awesome three miles of beautiful sandy beach at Putsborough, which is dog friendly all year round and the location of our beach riding.
Whether you’re already an expert or just keen to learn, some of the best surfing in Britain is available on our local beaches, with great local surf schools to hire you the equipment and show you what to do. And if there’s no surf then why not try your hand at coasteering or explore the fascinating coves and gullies on a stand-up paddleboard?
